As always, this pattern uses UK / AUS terminology...
This uses a "bobble stitch". If you're not familiar it goes a bit like this...
Yarn over, hook through stitch to pull yarn through (3 loops on hook), pull yarn through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook). Yarn over, put hook back through the same stitch and pull yarn through (4 loops on hook), pull yarn through 2 (3 loops remain on hook), pull yarn through remaining 2 stitches...
It's a bit like getting halfway through a treble and deciding you're going to start another one, joining the 2 "trebles" into one stitch at the end. This gives a nice oval shape.
Once you've mastered this one, you can also create bigger bobbles, buy repeating the 2nd step so that you have "3 trebles" pulled together into one stitch.
For the pattern above I have used:
4ply merino wool
4.00mm hook
I've changed colours for each row, which really shows up the pattern. This can look great in an ombre type style, starting with a darker colour in the centre and then changing to a lighter shade for each subsequent round.
Foundation:
Chain 4, slips stitch to form a ring.
Row 1 (trebles):
Chain 3 (first treble), treble 11 into the ring, slip stitch to join.
Row 2 (bobbles):
For the first bobble you need to chain 2, then treble into the same stitch, finally pulling the yarn through the last 2 loops leaving 1 loop on the hook. Chain 1. *bobble 1, Chain 1, repeat from * 11 times, slip stitch into first bobble to join ring.
Row 3 (bobbles):
This round is worked into the spaces created in the previous one. Slip stitch into the next space. For the first bobble you need to chain 2, then treble into the same space, finally pulling the yarn through the last 2 loops leaving 1 loop on the hook. Chain 2. *bobble 1, Chain 2, repeat from * 11 times, slip stitch into first bobble to join ring.
Row 4 (trebles):
Again, this round is worked into the spaces created in the previous one. Slip stitch into the next space. Chain 3 (to create the first treble), treble 2 into the same space, chain 1, treble 3 into the next space, chain 2, treble 3 into the same space (to create the first corner) chain 1. Continue by *trebling 3 into each space & chaining 1* for the next 2 spaces, then make your next corner and so on, until you complete the 4 sides and slip stitch to join off.Labels: circle in a square, crochet, crochet how to, granny square, tutorial
