Crochet Basics: How to crochet a square

To crochet this square:
I used ecru cotton and a 1.5mm hook. I used treble throughout (aka, US double crochet / DC).
Chain 4, join to create a ring.
First round - Chain 3 (that counts as your first treble), treble into the ring, *chain 2, treble 4 into ring. Repeat from * 3 times, then treble 2 into the ring and join to the 3rd chain of your first chain 3 you made. You will have 4 trebles on each side.
2nd round - chain 3. Treble into next 2 stitches, then *treble 2 into the chain 2 space from the previous round, chain 2, treble 2 more into the same space, treble into each of the next 4 stitches. Repeat from * 3 times, then treble into the next stitch and join to the 3rd chain of your first chain 3 that you made. You will have 8 trebles on each side of your square.
3rd round - chain 3, treble into each of the next 5 stitches. *Treble 2 into the chain 2 space from the previous round, chain 2, treble 2 into the same space, treble into each of the next 8 stitches. Repeat from * 3 times, then treble into the next 2 stitches and join into the 3rd chain of the first chain 3 you made. You will have made 12 trebles on each side of your hexagon.
4th round - chain 3, treble into next 8 stitches. *Treble 2 into the chain 2 space from the previous round, chain 2, treble 2 into the same space, treble into each of the next 12 stitches. Repeat from * 3 times, the treble into next 4 stitches and join into the 3rd chain of the first chain 3 you made. You will have made 16 trebles on each side of your hexagon.
I made 4 rounds only, but you can keep going, increasing the number of trebles on each side by 4 in each round.
